September 2025 Eclipses: Of Land and Sea

by | Aug 29, 2025 | Interpsycle Observator | 1 comment

It’s shaping up to be an eventful month dominated by the Pisces & Virgo eclipses this September.

You may have found life becoming a little intensified since the last 10 days of August when the New Moon in Virgo began the cycle of eclipses. Often, eclipses bring issues to the surface which can be confronting to deal with.

This month, we will experience two eclipses: A Full Moon Total Lunar Eclipse in Pisces on the 7th September; and a New Moon Partial Solar Eclipse in Virgo on the 21st September. The most affected will be people with important chart placements and activate timing systems in Virgo, Pisces, Gemini and Sagittarius. Consultations are open if you’d like to get more clarity on how these eclipses might be impacting and how best to navigate them.

Even though these eclipses are only two weeks apart, the energetic qualities of the two events will be vastly different. Here’s a breakdown of the eclipses this month.

Total Lunar Eclipse in 15°22 Pisces, 7 September 2025, 6:08:50pm (UT)

Being a Full Moon, this Eclipse in Pisces is a continuation of a known story. Cast your mind back to around 28th February 2025 when the New Moon in Pisces began its cycle. This was the beginning of something that is coming into full realisation now. Did you start something around February which is beginning to blossom, mature and integrated into your life now?

Pisces transcends the rational and conscious minds and therefore rules other worlds, non-conscious states, dreams, imagination, creativity and spiritual realms. It rules spiritual seekers, meditators, artists, visionaries and musicians while lower vibrational significations include martyrs, victims, addicts, the disillusioned and those struggling with material survival. Psychologically, Pisces seeks unification, true to its watery essence which binds and connects all the dots into one ocean of dreams. Ruled by the truth-seeking Jupiter, Pisces yearns to expand beyond your limits to experience new and wonderful things that can be integrated into your reality; new possibilities, beliefs and visions ripe for exploration.

If February created a time for such experiences to occur – perhaps a new ‘something’ opening up for you – then this month, you might feel like you’re ready to make a greater commitment towards it. This eclipse will bring a sense of maturity and growth to that matter. Take note of events and situations related to the Piscean themes as they come to your realisation during this eclipse.

Though growth can be painful at times, there appears to be many undercurrents that are propelling you into the right direction, easing the tensions of such a big eclipse event. The typical shocks that eclipses bring seem to be softened with favourable rulers and minimal malefic activity to support your expansion. At the very least, even if the intensity gets the better of you, there’s every chance you’ll be able to find the greater meaning and purpose behind it, thanks to the two rulers of the eclipse being in their exalted state.

There could even be a little gift or windfall in the works with Mercury Cazimi following the eclipse by only a few days. But, nothing is greater than the gift of spiritual purification that can ensue when such a phenomena occurs, making material gains the mere icing on the cake.

Even though the general sentiments of this eclipse seem quite smooth sailing, Uranus Stationing Retrograde just prior to the eclipse is likely to bring about some surprises, disruptions and turbulence. We might expect to see interruptions with technology, transport and communications, given Uranus is shifting gears in Gemini. Combined with the eclipses being the literal removal of light, this technology planet could see events like electrical blackouts occur which cause one to be in the dark or without vision. Ruling the hands and arms, with internal organs being the lungs, these bodily functions could also be sensitive during the week of this eclipse.

The eastern parts of Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia will host the shadow of this eclipse, indicating that these countries will be the ones to watch for major events during this time.

Partial Solar Eclipse in 29°05 Virgo, 21 September 2025, 7:54:04pm (UT)

While this is only a partial eclipse, the Solar Eclipse in Virgo certainly packs a big punch. Unlike the Lunar Eclipse two weeks prior, this eclipse brings a much harsher and unrelenting tone.

What’s important to note is that this exact moment will initiate a new cycle into your being. It is a New Moon in Virgo, which will eventually become a Full Moon in Virgo by 3rd March 2026, which also happens to be a Total Lunar Eclipse. Therefore, it’s wise (and highly recommended) to ensure that this very day is spent with deep awareness of your internal and external being. What you embody on this day, whether through conscious intention or spontaneous circumstances, will be enmeshed into your life for better or worse. Be prepared for what you’re willing to take on, otherwise, let sleeping dogs lie as they say.

Virgo is associated with health, healing, herbs, digestion and various ailments. It rules people like healers, doctors, craftsmen, trades people, artisans, growers and service-orientated professions. Virgo also embraces the business and networking qualities of its ruler Mercury, and rules the sales environments and the merchant-based level of society like small business, farmers markets, trades and other such productive enterprises. Psychologically, Virgo represents our duty and service, paid or unpaid. Underpinning it is a desperate need to be needed, to the point where the ego can be denied for the sake of the reassurance of one’s worth and skill. It will be important to observe any material events or omens around these themes during the week of this eclipse.

There are some very noteworthy features of this Solar Eclipse, which unfortunately, bring an abrasive tone. The biggest issue being that this eclipse is ‘besieged’ – a difficult configuration where two malefic planets (Saturn & Mars) surround it like an army that’s been trapped. So not only may you find yourself cornered into a difficult place, the eclipse of the Sun may also remove your ability to see where you’re going or what’s around you. Therefore, be prepared for a sense of struggle and vulnerability to prevail during the end of this month.

Being at the last degree of Virgo also brings added stress to this New Moon eclipse. It shows an urgency for change and transformation, often forced through the brutality of Mars, which rules the terms of this degree in Virgo. Therefore, if we view this New Moon as the birth of a new cycle, we could anticipate it to be quite a harsh and painful one at that, but possibly quick.

Although this eclipse dissipates swiftly with the major parties changing signs, we hit another hurdle three days later with an aggressive Moon-Mars square to Pluto (24 Sep). Moon and Mars enter Scorpio, a debilitating place for the Moon and a powerful position for Mars suggesting that the qualities of Mars (ie. conflict, aggression, violence, motivation and will) shall prevail over the weaker Moon qualities seeking security, safety and nurturance. The combination of this with Pluto can show brutality and force that can be destructive, possibly violent. But if channelled with intention, you might be able to direct this energy towards a focused task requiring the deepest of your inner resources.

New Zealand and the eastern edge of Australia will be the focus for this eclipse.

Wavering between the worlds of land and sea

There are many paradoxes on this earthy, watery Virgo-Pisces continuum such as order and chaos; detail and big picture; control and surrender; conscious and unconscious; material and immaterial. Where do you sit on this scale?

The umbrella which holds them is their mutable nature which we must embrace in order to thrive through these eclipses; that is, to adopt their love of change, endings, beginnings, movement and learning.

Virgo teaches us the importance of grounding in the body and mind while Pisces helps to relinquish the grasp on material illusions in order to transcend towards spiritual truth. To sit at the fulcrum of these two paradoxes is the opportunity that these eclipses can offer.

I look forward to offering more guidance on these opportunities for personal growth.

Dear Shu, thank you as usual. I belong to the group of people who will be more affected probably with natal nodes at Sag-Gemini 14 degrees and natal Moon in Sag at 16, Neptune at 29 Sag, MC in Virgo 21 degrees, etc etc (Scorpio rising, I have natal Saturn in Scorpio 13 degrees). I wish I could afford a reading with you ☹️ Soon I hope, for now I prepare for a lot of turmoil but it has been there since last summer, especially with Uranus on my descendant now opposing my natal Venus at 0 Sag, without me timing Saturn in Pisces and how it affected me. Maybe the trust in the universe should come at play, difficult mindset for a fixed sign. Fingers crossed
